Are We Socialists? A Poll

I had briefly heard Glenn Beck talking about this poll but wasn’t able to hear his comments in full but I heard enough to think, holy hell!

So, are we [Americans] socialist?

For years I’ve thought we were tending towards socialism and that we would embrace it when and if it came.

I believe that Bush the younger took a big step towards socialism and that president Obama is currently jogging towards socialism and will breakout into a full run very soon.

I want to show you question 32 first.

poll1

If you are having trouble reading the text, the question is:

I’m going to read you a list of items, for each one please tell me
whether you think it is the responsibility of the federal government or not.
First, do you think it is the responsibility of the federal government to
[ITEM], or is that not the responsibility of the federal government? (RANDOMIZE)
SCALE: 1. Yes, is responsibility of federal government 2. No, is not the
responsibility of the federal government 3. (Don’t know)

The responses are as follows:

Make sure all Americans have food/ 68% say yes.

Make sure all Americans have health care/ 66% say yes.

Provide housing to those who cannot afford it/ 52% say yes.

Make sure all Americans who want a job, have a job/ 51% say yes.

I think the first question concerning rebuilding communities is also an indicator, but would be better dealt with separately at a different time.

The final question of rescuing failing financial institutions could be considered encouraging, but it really isn’t.

The only reason people say the government should not rescue these organizations is because they [perhaps rightly so] are angry with the organizations.  The American people blame [wrongly so] these financial institutions for our current economic situation and they [the American people] want to see these institutions suffer.

Consider the above responses and then consider along side the following poll questions and responses.

poll4

Question 39: Do you think Americans are starting to rely too much on the government and not enough on themselves?

A case of schizophrenia?

The polled persons want the federal government to supply food, health care, employment and housing and at the same time they believe Americans rely too much on government and not enough on ourselves?

Are we socialists?

Yes I think so, reluctant perhaps, but socialists none the less.

There is a lot more to this poll, follow the link at the beginning of this post to see the whole of the poll. I thought the whole of the poll is disturbingly revealing.

A Bad First Presidential Impression

First impressions are important, agreed?

Mr. Obama made a bad first presidential impression.

I know many will not believe me, but I honestly am very proud of this nation in our having elected a black man to the highest office in American government.

I’m disappointed that the particular man holds to what I believe is a socialist agenda. None the less he IS my president; that being so, as I’ve mentioned here before, I will support him where I can and oppose him where I must.

I am actually looking for and wanting situations where I can support him. But our relationship, mine and Obama’s, has gotten off to a rocky start. With all of the pride I felt today, with all of the patriotism I felt  as Mr. Obama was sworn in, I experienced a lot of disappointment and in at least one instance, disgust.

I honestly was not going to say anything on my blog about my disappointments with this day however, a few moments ago I read something which became the straw that broke my particular camels back.

On the newly redesigned White House web site I found the following.

President Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. He and Vice President Biden will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur.

President Obama swiftly responded to Hurricane Katrina. Citing the Bush Administration’s "unconscionable ineptitude" in responding to Hurricane Katrina, …

The web site of our very American government IS NOT the place where one takes cheap shots at former presidents. It demonstrates a complete lack of tact and grace.

Is this the manner in which I can expect the president of my nation to behave himself?

We as well saw and heard a lack of tact and grace by many in the crowd as they sang out lyrics from the pop/rock group Steam to still, at the time, president Bush. The lyrics are as follows:

Nah, nah, nah,
Hey, hey, hey,
Goodbye.

So far as I know such a thing is unprecedented.

Former presidents are to be treated and normally are treated with respect during the transition period. Let us also remember how accommodating and respectful Mr. Bush had been to Mr. Obama and the Obama transition team during the transition.

I had been told since the election that this was to be a new era of inclusiveness in America, I most definitely took from the inauguration ceremonies a sense of separation, them and us.

There were moments of today which caused me to experience great national pride, and there were moments that caused me disappointment. However, one particular moment caused me great disgust. I found it a shameful moment.

That moment would be the benediction given by the Rev. Joseph Lowery.

While within the prayer there were things I can surely provide an ‘Amen’ to, when taken in whole the prayer is not deserving of an ‘Amen’.

Moments before making the following request of God

Lord, in the complex arena of human relations, help us to make choices on the side of love, not hate; on the side of inclusion, not exclusion; tolerance, not intolerance.

The good reverend first made this statement

deliver us from the exploitation of the poor or the least of these and from favoritism toward the rich, the elite of these.

To end the benediction Lowery had this to say

we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right.

I don’t deny that this nation has some dark blemishes in it’s history. I don’t deny we’ve still some issues.

However, most of those blemishes are in fact history and those that are not, are on their way. We are fallible men and women and because of that racism will never be among the extinct, but we are a nation that will never stop trying to bring about it’s death.

The message provided by rev. Lowery is not a message for America and it is not a message that should have been allowed to be delivered to America via the presidential inauguration.

Leave Your Thank You Message For President Bush

By way of Little Green Footballs I came across Mission 1 Accomplished.

The web site states it’s purpose as:

to specifically thank, credit and acknowledge President George W. Bush for his success in keeping the United States safe from domestic terrorism in the years following the tragic events of 9.11.

At least in the source code that is the stated purpose.

Each visitor may leave their own words of thanks as they relate to his having kept the nation safe during his watch.

The messages of thanks will be presented to the former president as a potential offering for his presidential library.

This Friggin’ Love Fest

Seriously!

I can’t take the religious fervor (and there is most definitely a quasi-spirituality to the Obama cult).

It is impossible to remove the unreasonable elements between the eight years of Bush hatred by the media and celebrities and homage paid Barack Obama by the very same persons.

In the video below, Hollywood celebrities have joined together to pledge “to be the change we seek”.

Various pledges are given by various celebrities through out the video, pledges to better America and the world. Where were these pledges from these people during the eight years that George W. Bush was in the White House?

Their pledges at that time consisted of threatening to leave the country (a pledge I would they had made good on) too cursing our nations president, too blaming all the woes of the world upon him.

Of the various pledges, it is the final pledge of Ashton Kutcher and his grandmother, Demi Moore that I enjoy the most. Together they pledge, “to be a servant to our president and to all man kind”!

I wonder, did they have any kind of pledge for this nation or man kind as a whole previous to the election of Barack Obama?

I’ve my own pledge.
It’s actually the same pledge I had for George W. Bush and the very same I will have for each subsequent president.

I pledge to support you where I can and stand against you when I must.

These fools, and Barack Obama himself, may well have put a load upon the shoulders Mr. Obama that is far heavier than he will be able to carry.

The Truth Of Hamas, In Their Own Words

The following video is a presentation of MEMRI a group which does an absolutely excellent job of bringing Middle East media to the rest of the world, allowing us to judge the nations and the religiosity of the region for ourselves.

In case you are not wanting to watch the whole of the video of I have made a transcription of the various clips within the video. I think it is important that every person knows what is being taught and told to Muslims around the world. By conducting a little personal research it is easy to determine that statements such as you will see in the video are not a peculiarity of Hamas only.

The rhetoric is wide spread and readily received. I would like not to think that the majority of Muslims believe the type of preaching that comes from Hamas and similar groups, but the more I look at the media from Islamic nations the less I believe the claim that Islam has been hijacked by a minority of radicals.

That is something I suppose each individual person can decide upon for themselves for the time being, I suspect that the truth of it will be known sooner or later.

The transcript is posted below the video.

If It Had Been Saddam Hussein At The Podium

bush_shoe

I’m sure this has already been pointed out a million times by now, one more time won’t hurt.

If it had been Saddam Hussein at the podium yesterday who the Iraqi reporter (I understood the reporter to actually be from Egypt) threw a shoe at, that reporter would be dead now.

I wasn’t going to post on this at all but I came across this posting over at DUmmie FUnnies in which he highlights pieces of a thread at the Democratic Underground mock Bush and praise the reporter who threw the shoe.

I found their responses to be more than interesting and demonstrative of their [the left] typical hatred.

The left’s hatred of Bush is not exactly a secret, but the degree of hatred still sometimes shocks me.

A good percentage of the messages in the thread are vulgar to the point where I would not feel comfortable posting them here. Many lament that Bush was not actually hit by either of the shoes. Most of them are just seething with vile hatred.

I am not pleased that Barack Obama is to be our president, I am opposed to him in whole and his agenda in whole, still were he to experience something similar I would not take pleasure in it and would not be wishing ill upon him.

These people are simply sickening.

A sampling from the Democratic Underground follows:

And how many people would actually get to read anything an Iraqi journalist wrote, I applaud this “Journalist” for what he did, its just a shame Shrub didn’t get his teeth knocked out!!

He didn’t get the memo he was s’pose to throw flowers! At least Bush got the greeting he deserved.

Couldn’t happen 2 a better person

Somebody get that guy a brick!

Too bad Shrub didn’t get his teeth knocked out, that guys a true hero!

I want to put it on tape and give it out as a Christmas gift
